In 2009, Azhand unveiled a striking new jewelry line that broke through traditional expectations,
focusing on mediums outside metal, instead incorporating materials like sequins, ribbons, chains,
vintage finds, beads, and unusual textiles. At the time, Azhand said, “Today,
I am designing with ribbons and yards — tomorrow, who knows what will inspire me.”
It was her father’s gift of “thousands” of sequins and beads, given to her when she was 15,
that inspired Azhand’s first jewelry line. “He always believed in me,
and he knew I would be designing something great with them — and I did.
I wanted to design something unusual and unique, a jewelry design other
than what has always been in the market.”
